As Disneyland Paris prepares to celebrate the 30th anniversary of one of its most iconic attractions in 2025, fans hoping for a return to the classic Space Mountain: De la Terre à la Lune may need to adjust their expectations. A major refurbishment project is currently underway — but it’s not to removed the Star Wars theme.
In honor of the upcoming milestone, the Walt Disney Imagineering Paris and Design & Delivery teams are developing a spectacular new exterior lighting concept for Star Wars™ Hyperspace Mountain. The project, which has been in development for nearly two years, is bringing a full technical and visual overhaul to the ride’s exterior.

The transformation includes the replacement of more than 640 luminaires, over 17 kilometers of cabling, modernization of technical equipment, repainting of the iconic dome, and the creation of new access points for easier maintenance. According to Disneyland Paris, this will result in a stunning light show that will be visible every time a launch sequence begins — not just for riders, but for all Discoveryland guests.
With help from original Space Mountain lighting designer
Perhaps the most nostalgic twist: the lighting designer who originally worked on the 1995 version of the attraction has returned to contribute to this update, adding a subtle nod to the ride’s past while firmly securing its future in the galaxy far, far away.
Though some fans have long hoped the 30th anniversary would mark the return of the original Jules Verne-inspired theming, the final line in Disney’s announcement makes it clear:
“See you later this summer to discover the results of this interstellar transformation – and to continue exploring galaxies far, far away…”
That single sentence confirms what many had feared: Star Wars: Hyperspace Mountain is here to stay.
For now, fans of the original 1995 version can only reminisce, while a new generation prepares to blast off with the Rebellion — and to continue exploring galaxies far, far away…
