Disney Imagineering has announced that a brand-new Audio-Animatronic of Walt Disney will debut in Walt Disney’s Carousel of Progress at Magic Kingdom. Revealed during Destination D23, the figure will appear in a new introduction scene, where Walt personally welcomes guests before the classic show begins.
The Carousel of Progress, originally created for the 1964 New York World’s Fair, is one of Disney’s most iconic attractions. Adding Walt himself—through state-of-the-art animatronic technology—pays tribute to his legacy while refreshing the experience for future generations.
According to Imagineer Chris Beatty, the new figure represents the most advanced animatronic work to date, designed to capture Walt’s expressions and mannerisms with remarkable realism. The Walt Disney Family Museum collaborated closely with Imagineering to ensure historical accuracy and authenticity.
Concept art reveals a setting inspired by Walt’s creative spaces, filled with sketches and blueprints. While no debut date has been confirmed, fans can expect more details soon, including whether the current family characters will see updates as well.
Reactions among fans have been enthusiastic, with many celebrating the chance to see Walt return to the stage he once envisioned. Some remain cautious after previous challenges with animatronics of Walt, but overall the update is seen as a respectful and exciting evolution of a Disney classic.
