After being closed for several months, Alice’s Curious Labyrinth at Disneyland Park has officially reopened following an extensive refurbishment.
The renovation was much needed. Before the closure, many of the attraction’s animated effects were no longer functioning, while various parts of the labyrinth were clearly in need of a fresh coat of paint. Thankfully, the refurbishment has given the attraction a much-needed attention.
All of the Alice in Wonderland characters found throughout the maze have been completely repainted, making them look brighter and more vibrant than they have in years. The animated figures have also been repaired, with those designed to move now working again. Even better, they appear to operate more frequently than before. In the past, guests often had to wait quite a while for the Queen of Hearts to suddenly emerge from the bushes, but during our visit the effects seemed to trigger much more smoothly.
One of the most noticeable visual changes can be found behind the Caterpillar. The colourful leaves in this area have been replaced with a darker colour palette, giving the scene a slightly different atmosphere. Meanwhile, the large mushrooms the Caterpillar sits on have been repainted in a striking bright yellow, making this section stand out even more.
Unfortunately, it wouldn’t quite be a Disneyland Paris refurbishment without at least a few things still not working. During our visit, the labyrinth had no background music at all, and none of the usual sound effects that accompany the different scenes and characters could be heard. We also noticed that the Caterpillar was no longer producing smoke. Whether this effect is temporarily out of service or has been permanently removed due to its smoking theme remains unclear.
Despite these remaining issues, Alice’s Curious Labyrinth is looking better than it has in a long time. As an outdoor attraction exposed to the elements year-round, it is rarely in perfect condition, making this refurbishment a very welcome improvement for guests visiting Disneyland Park.
