A small but meaningful update has appeared inside “it’s a small world” at Disneyland Paris.
New welcome and goodbye signs in Gaeilge, the Irish language, have been added to the attraction. The signs represent Ireland and can be seen when boats enter and leave the building, alongside the many other signs that welcome guests or say goodbye in different languages.
The new signs read “Fáilte!”, which means “Welcome”, and “Slán go fóill!”, which can be translated as “Goodbye for now” or “See you later”.
They have been added in the pre-show and post-show areas of the attraction and fit nicely into the colourful floral decorations. The signs are displayed on heart-shaped panels with decorative details, matching the familiar style of the attraction.
The update was spotted by Irish content creator Stuart McHugh, who runs the social media page Disneyland Paris Tips for Irish. In a video shared on July 24, he showed the new signage during a visit to Disneyland Paris. He believes the addition may be linked to his campaign to have Irish language representation added to the attraction.
Since opening in 1992, “it’s a small world” has celebrated cultural diversity through scenes representing countries and regions from around the world. The attraction features dolls in traditional costumes, singing the famous Sherman Brothers song in several languages.
Ireland was already represented inside the attraction through a scene featuring elements such as leprechauns and shamrocks, located among the first scenes guests see during the boat ride. The addition of Irish language signs now adds another layer to that representation.
It is a small detail, but one that fits perfectly with the message of It’s A Small World: a world connected by different cultures, languages, and traditions.
