One of Disneyland Paris’ most iconic attractions Space Mountain is going back to its roots!
When Space Mountain – De la Terre à la Lune first opened in 1995, it offered something completely new. Inspired by Jules Verne’s classic novel From the Earth to the Moon, the attraction combined thrilling roller coaster elements with a retro-futuristic storyline and groundbreaking technology.
Over the years, Space Mountain has gone through several changes and taken guests on different adventures. For the past ten years, the attraction has been known as Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, sending guests on a mission across the galaxy alongside the Rebel Alliance.
But now, the Moon is coming back!
Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain will close in late 2027
Disneyland Paris has announced that Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain will close at the end of 2027 for a major refurbishment lasting several months.
Walt Disney Imagineering Paris is already working on the project, which will bring the attraction much closer to its beloved original theme.
The refurbishment will include extensive technical work and maintenance upgrades, but there will also be plenty of changes guests will actually see and experience.
The indoor sets and props will be refreshed, the queue will be enhanced and new special effects will be introduced. The famous launch sequence from the 22-metre-long Columbiad Cannon will also receive new effects.
A new journey to the Moon
While the original theme is returning, this won’t simply be a recreation of the 1995 attraction.
The updated storyline will transport guests to an idealised era of the very first journeys to the Moon, while keeping the distinctive steampunk style of Discoveryland.
Several beloved elements from the original attraction will return alongside completely new scenic details and enhancements.
The redesigned queue will also once again allow guests to watch the roller coaster trains in motion, helping to introduce the story before boarding.
The original soundtrack is coming back!
Another exciting detail for longtime fans is the return of the attraction’s iconic soundtrack.
The original score composed by Steve Bramson will return in a fully remastered version, accompanying guests during their journey to the Moon.
The attraction will also benefit from more than 30 years of technological improvements. This includes the new state-of-the-art exterior lighting system that was installed on the Space Mountain dome in 2025.
Part of Disneyland Paris’ “New Magic” initiative
The return of Space Mountain – De la Terre à la Lune will be an important part of Disneyland Paris’ recently announced “New Magic” initiative.
This new programme focuses on improving the guest experience while refreshing some of Disneyland Paris’ classic attractions for new generations.
One of the first examples can already be found in Frontierland, where new and enhanced scenery has recently been added along the Rivers of the Far West, inspired by original designs from Disney Legend and Imagineer Marc Davis.
Several other projects are currently at different stages of development and will be revealed gradually.
For Space Mountain fans, however, the biggest news is clear: after more than a decade of Star Wars Hyperspace Mountain, Disneyland Paris is preparing to take guests to the Moon once again!
